Social media has become a huge part of society in the past few years, and I think for a long time, many writers tried to fight the surge of social media. I get it. There’s a beauty in a tangible book, and unplugging from the world of the internet. Trust me, I believe there is a time and a place for that as well, but I think we would be foolish to try to ignore the tool that social media can be. I know there are pros and cons for writers on social media, but I can’t ignore the new connections social media has given me to my readers and the new creativity I feel growing from these platforms.
My Chance for Feedback
Social media has provided me with an amazing chance for feedback from my readers that I would’ve never gotten before. I’m able to see how my readers feel about my clean romance novels, and that encouragement is something every author cherishes. I’ve mentioned before how scary it can be to start writing a story you’re passionate about. You never know what people might think, or if your readers will love your story the way you do, but social media changes all of that. Readers can tell me how they feel about my romance novels, and I can feel a new connection to my readers I would never have without social media. Social media can give you a whole new support system and community that you didn’t even realize you can have. Being a writer can feel isolating, but opening the door to social media invites engaged readers into your circle. I’m so grateful for them!
The New Wave of Creativity
Social media also opens the door to a new form of creativity. Every platform is different, and finding new ways to entice readers with my content and show them the behind-the-scenes of creating romance novels has sparked a new side of my creativity. I’m no longer just putting things down on a page. I’m getting to select quotes from my reader’s reviews, or pick out moving scenes from my novels for new readers to see if they want to read my story.
Social media has become a place I can connect to new readers and hear from readers that have read all my novels and are waiting for my next one! If you’re a writer and you’re unsure if you should start social media, I can’t say it enough, you should! Whether it’s TikTok, Facebook, or Pinterest, social media can open your mind to so many new ways to create content for your readers. You also never know what other writers or people in the writing industry you will connect with on social media! I have realized that the writing community can grow so much closer when we are all embracing the wonderful tools of social media. We can offer each other encouragement, advice, and resources on this platform that we might never have the chance to without it.
The Inspiration for the Next Story
Seeing the feedback from your readers is a great opportunity to inspire your next story. I have been able to see the elements of my clean romance novels that my readers loved in From Friends to Forever and Balancing Love & Work, and now I can bring those same loves and passions into a whole new and inventive clean romance novel. These stories are so different, and I’m sure my next one will be as well, but I am so encouraged by the love and support that I have from my social media followers and what my readers have told me through these platforms. Who knows? One of those reviews could have sparked the next big idea in the works. For writers, reading our reviews can inspire so much more inside of us. Don’t be afraid to find your readers on these platforms and start building your new community!
Conclusion
I know that social media can be an intimidating platform to start. Trust me, I was scared at first too, but I wouldn’t change the connections I’ve formed from these platforms for the world! I have been able to share so much more about the writing process, and my characters through social media. Social media is a great chance to connect with people that you may never meet face to face. As a clean romance and women’s fiction author, my motivation to write is rooted in love. The love and support I receive from the readers that interact with my content is one of the most rewarding resources I have. You never know which reader’s review, or inspiring post might inspire the next great romance novel!
