The Heart of Clean Romance: Why I Choose to Write Love Stories Without the Heat

Now, here’s a topic that can be very controversial in the romance novel realm- clean romance. Let’s really dive into this here. There is something special about a love story that makes you swoon without the steamy scenes.

Why do you read a book? I read for the feeling that for the little time I spend in those pages, I want to feel like I’m stepping into the story. And for me, there’s nothing more satisfying than a romance full of genuine connections and emotional depth.

So, grab a cozy coffee, and let’s break down why I am so passionate about writing clean romance novels that can warm the heart without turning up the heat.

Understanding Clean Romance: What It Is and Why It Matters

First, it’s hard to see why you’d want to read a clean romance over a steamy romance without knowing what clean romance really is. Picture this: two characters, sharing a genuine connection, having deep, meaningful moments, and waiting for their love story to unfold with all of the romantic little moments, and none of the explicit content.

Clean romance novels focus on the emotional journey that develops between the characters. Just like a budding new relationship, there are butterflies, and giddy moments that leave out what could happen behind closed doors.

Now, the reason this matters is simple. It’s about chasing those butterflies, chasing those romantic feelings, not heat that could be fleeting between two characters. Clean romance novels create the perfect picture: it’s a cozy night in, the rain falling outside, and the fire warming inside, curled under a blanket, a paperback open, spending nights flipping pages, gripping the binding and waiting for the butterflies to catch you again.

All of that, without having to worry about someone else picking up the book and gasping at what’s on the page!

The Magic of Small Town Clean Romance: Creating Heartwarming Settings

With a small town clean romance, so much relies on the setting you create as a writer. We’re trying to immerse our readers in their idyllic, romantic setting, and a small town is the perfect place for that. The cozy coffee shops, the old, quaint neighborhoods, and the picturesque streets create the small town life we’ve all dreamed of having ourselves.

Tales of friends to lovers in a small town setting, creates the perfect heartwarming story. Two people, who’ve grown up together, know so much about each other and their small community, and then they realize that all along something deeper was forming. Love can take shape in so many different ways, and that friends to lovers romance is one that always brings back that butterfly feeling. That slower lifestyle and tight knit community makes a friends to lovers clean romance flourish even more.

Dramatic Romance Books Without the Heat: Crafting Emotional Depth

Heat is not the only thing that can bring real drama to a novel. Oh no, trust me, a novel can be even more dramatic without the heat. Clean romance is all about capturing the emotions of characters, so without the heat, there’s even more time to give to the tumultuous emotions that romance can bring.

Love triangle romance novels are the perfect example of this. There are so many tensions between the three people involved in the love triangle, there’s heartache, choices to be made, and  the ultimate triumph when the choice is finally made. All of this can be done without any explicit content, and without it, there’s even more time for the tension and emotion to be built by the writer. It’s about the emotional rollercoaster and internal struggles the characters face.

Friends to Lovers: The Heart of Relatable and Realistic Romance

There is nothing quite like a friends to lovers trope. So many of us can think of that one person that was always in the back of our minds, making us wonder if there could be something more than a friendship. It’s heartwarming, relatable, and if I’m honest, just plain fun to write. We all have heard that you are supposed to marry your best friend, so doesn’t it just seem fitting that a friends to lovers romance trope would be one of the most popular?

Friends to lovers can be set in any setting, I’ve seen mine in small towns, military bases, across states even. Each setting brings a new level to the story. So many tropes work without the heat, but friends to lovers especially is one of my favorites. A genuine, emotional connection is formed between the characters in a way that can’t happen with other kinds of romance.

Writing from the Heart

So, why do I choose to write clean romance? It’s very simple. I want to craft a story that touches readers’ hearts- stories that remind all of us of the beauty of love in its purest form. Clean romance focuses on the emotional connections and the heartfelt moments that are the foundation of true love, not the heat that can overshadow true love.

Over the years, I’ve received many messages from readers who love clean, wholesome love stories. They tell me how my books bring them joy and comfort, and that is why I write clean romance. I write to give those readers that butterfly feeling we’re all chasing from a good romance novel.

Rediscovering True Romance

When love has been warped into something that’s consumed by lust and steamy scenes that are fleeting, there’s a growing niche to captivate hearts in a different way to escape this warped image of true love. Clean romance novels focus on the emotional journey and the deeper connections in characters in a way that readers are yearning for.

As a writer who’s trying to help her readers see the genuine foundations of true romance, clean romance has ignited a fire for me to continue writing romance novels. So, next time you’re in a mood for a love story that warms your heart without the heat, pick up one of my clean romance novels. You never know what spark you’ll find hidden in the pages!
